They live! Ted 2 and the 5 other films that brought toys to life

screen-poster

Who? Ted

When? 2012-2015

How? In 1985, young John is a lonely child that dearly wishes that his new Christmas teddy bear could come to life and be his best friend. As luck would have it, the wish coincided with the passing of a shooting star and so Ted was born. Toy fact: Not only does writer/director Seth McFarlane provide the voice of Ted but he also did all the motion capture recording to get the movement of Ted just right. The sequel  Ted 2, out on 10 July, sees the world's most objectionable teddy bear coming of age.

Who? Pinocchio

When? 1940

How? When Pinocchio's inventor, Gepetto, wishes that the wooden doll he created and named Pinocchio could come to life, his wish is granted by a fairy. Toy fact: After then enormous success of Cinderella, Disney have recently announced that they're working on a new live-action remake of Pinocchio.

Who? The entire cast of Toy Story

When? 1995-2010

How? It's never explained, unfortunately. Maybe it's magic, or maybe toys actually do all come to life and cause havoc around the house when we're not there. Which is a worrying thought. Toy fact: Despite the original Toy Story trilogy coming to a natural conclusion, Pixar have revealed that a fourth film will be released in 2017. According to Pixar boss John Lasseter, the plot was just too good not to make it.

Who? The toys in Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium

When? 2007

How? All the toys for sale in the shop of Mr Magorium (Dustin Hoffman) can magically come to life. Initially you may think that this is down to the eccentric Margorium (who, apparently, is 243 years old), but it's actually the shop that's magical. Toy fact: The bizarre look of Magorium was created by Hoffman himself.

Who? Annabelle

When? 2014

How? Apparently based on a true story, Annabelle is a possessed doll that first appeared in The Conjuring and then earned its own spin-off film. Toy fact: Demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren still have the real Annabelle doll locked up in their Occult Museum. There's a sign on the doll's case that reads, 'Warning. Positively do not open'.

Ted 2 will see the world's rudest teddy bear back on the big screen from 10 July.
