Two Steven Spielberg movies are dropping at the start of 2018, beginning with The Post on 19th January and then virtual reality epic Ready Player One on 30th March.
It's the former that's beginning to gather awards buzz, one of Spielberg's heavyweight dramas that he likes to intersperse among his popcorn extravaganzas.
Based on true events The Post (formerly known as The Papers) pairs the Oscar-winning duo of Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep as Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee and the paper's first female publisher Kay Graham, respectively.
The film explores their dramatic struggle to publish The Pentagon Papers, a leaked classified document that implicated the Nixon government in a series of cover-ups pertaining to the Vietnam War.
Both Hanks and Streep are featured in this first image from the movie, which also teases other members of a dynamite ensemble cast that includes Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenkirk, Bradley Whitford, Jesse Plemons, Carrie Coon and Alison Brie. Check it out below.
Combine Spielberg's Oscar-winning dramatic clout from the likes of Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan with a never-more-topical story and remarkable cast, and it's safe to say Oscar could well come calling.
No trailer for The Post has been released yet but get your Spielberg fill with a very different kind of trailer for Ready Player One. Adapted from Ernest Cline's pop culture bible the movie mashes up all manner of 80s icons from Freddy Krueger to Back to the Future's time-travelling DeLorean in an action-packed tale of a virtual reality treasure hunt. Take a look at the trailer right here.
