The Rise of Skywalker is by no means closing out Disney's involvement in Star Wars. While we already knew to expect a the start of a brand new trilogy in 2022, studio CEO Bob Iger has now revealed to Deadline that there are "half a dozen Star Wars films in various stages of development" at Lucasfilm.
Iger also recently announced that the December 2022 release will be directed, written and produced by Game of Thrones creators D.B Weiss and David Benioff. The Last Jedi's Rian Johnson is also working on a new Star Wars trilogy.
It's not yet clear whether Weiss and Benioff will look after an entire new trilogy or just a single film - Iger literally stated "we're not saying any more about that." Thanks to the full Disney schedule that popped up via Fandango at the beginning of this month, though, we can expect a new Star Wars release every two years from 2022.
Disney, Fox release a number of release date changes and confirmations, including Avatar 2 in December 2021, Ad Astra (Brad Pitt in space) to September 2019, New Mutants and Artemis Fowl pushed to 2020, and guesses as to which Marvel movie is which! pic.twitter.com/2A9q9OtvO3
