It's official: Jon Watts in talks to direct the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel

It's good to be director Jon Watts right now. Not only has he launched Spider-Man: Homecoming to enormous popular success, he's done such a good job that Marvel wants him back to direct the sequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Watts is in talks to return for the next Spidey movie, which will reunite us with Tom Holland's endearing and infectiously likeable wall crawler.

The first adventure has already grossed $480 million worldwide against a $175m budget. Not a bad career trajectory for a filmmaker previously best known for micro-budget Kevin Bacon Cop Car.

We think this is excellent news: Watts' deft handling of the Ferris Bueller high school angle lends this Spidey reboot a sense of freshness and joyousness. We can't wait to see where the character will go within the Marvel Cinematic Universe from here.

The sequel is due for release in July 2019. Do you want to see Watts return and direct the Homecoming follow-up? Let us know @Cineworld.
