Happy birthday Ryan Reynolds! Here are 9 times he bossed social media

screen-poster

Not just the handsome and hilarious star of Deadpool and its 2018 sequel, Ryan Reynolds is also a one man social media machine. It's also his 41st birthday today so join us in wishing him many happy returns.

To mark the occasion we've rounded up 10 of his finest online moments.

1. When he broke YouTube with Jake Gyllenhaal

During the arduous press tour for sci-fi thriller Life, both Ryan and new BFF Jake went seriously off-script with this wild and hysterically funny interview.

2. When he gatecrashed Eddie the Eagle

Foreshadowing the Deadpool/Logan banter that has overtaken the online world in recent months, here Ryan turns up to Hugh Jackman's press junket and acts as the interviewer.

3. Redefining Valentine's Day

The marketing campaign for the first Deadpool was one of the best in recent memory, alerting the audience to the irreverent nature of the character long before he even arrived on our screens. In particular, Ryan's social media emphasis on it being the anti-Valentine movie to end them all helped propel the movie to enormous success.

4. Making time for his fans

Whilst filming Deadpool Ryan bonded with ill young boy Tony Acevedo, who cheekily got to wear the Merc's hood. And Ryan being the gentlemen he is, he shared the heartwarming story on Instagram.

5. Reminiscing with his wife

On Twitter, Ryan put out a brilliant post about how his first date with eventual spouse Blake Lively got off to a bad start. Like a seriously toothy, dangerous start. (It was referring to her role in killer shark movie The Shallows.)

6. Golly Josh!

Ryan has been singlehandedly drip-feeding us nuggets of info on Deadpool 2, and he broke the internet when unspooling the first look of Josh Brolin as cybernetic mercenary Cable.

7. When he trolled Wonder Woman

Words can't express the burn.

8. When he trolled his own daughter

It turns out no-one is safe from Ryan's razor-sharp wit. Is he actually turning into Deadpool in real life?

Went to Disneyland because my daughter's obsessed with Mickey Mouse. She was so excited when I got home and told her.

9. Being the butt of the joke

Deadpool's fireplace/rug poster campaign is turned on its head when the Merc with a Mouth is himself used as a recliner by Domino (Zazie Beetz). This is why we love Ryan – he can mercilessly mock other people but can also ruthlessly laugh at himself whilst selling his new movie.
