First trailer lands for Point Break remake

screen-poster

To misquote a certain Tony Stark: no hard feelings Point Break fans. Because the first trailer for the remake has finally arrived.

Yes, the cult classic 1991 surfing/bank robber actioner starring Keanu Reeves and the late Patrick Swayze has been retooled for a 21st century audience. Outrageous or justified? You decide.

The original, directed by The Hurt Locker's Kathryn Bigelow, stars Reeves as FBI agent Johnny Utah who's sent undercover to infiltrate the gang of bank robber and surfer dude Bodhi (Swayze). Whilst on his mission, he experiences divided loyalties, which results in that famous firing-the-gun-into-the-air scene spoofed brilliantly in Hot Fuzz.

The remake is directed by The Fast and the Furious cinematographer Ericson Core – and by the looks of it, the movie has absorbed the kinetic, glossy style of those movies, amping up the original Point Break's stunts ten-fold. Home and Away actor Luke Bracey steps into the Utah role whilst Edgar Ramirez, best known for the likes of The Bourne Ultimatum and Wrath of the Titans, plays Bodhi.

It's clearly got a hot young cast and energy to burn – but will this live up to the legacy of the beloved original? Take a look at the trailer and judge for yourself. Point Break is released on 8th January 2016.
