First look! The New Mutants poster teases horror spin on the X-Men universe

The X-Men timeline takes another dramatic swerve with Josh Boone's superhero origin story The New Mutants, arriving on 11th April 2018.

The Fault In Our Stars director adapts Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod's fan-favourite comic strip, one that first arrived in 1982. It focuses on an adolescent group of mutants away from the main X-Men contingent, all of whom are struggling with the results of their burgeoning powers.

Boone whipped fans into a social media frenzy with the first trailer, released on Friday 13th October, and he's now followed up with this surprisingly disturbing new poster.

This looks like a far darker, horror-inflected extension of the bestselling comic book franchise, with a super-talented cast including Split's Anya Taylor-Joy, Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams and Stranger Things' Charlie Heaton. Check it out below.

"Fox made Deadpool and Logan and they were sort of so tonally different they felt emboldened to let us make this differently, ensuring the movie has its own distinct tone and identity," Boone explains. "I think of the mainline X-Men movies more as grand operative science-fiction films. This is much more of a performance-driven horror film."

Will The New Mutants continue what Logan started, and further rejuvenate the X-Men franchise? Tweet us your thoughts @Cineworld.
