Captain Marvel is set to redefine the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) when it's released next year. And a visually arresting new poster has been unveiled on Marvel's Twitter page, teasing the dual personality of Brie Larson's eponymous superhero who begins life as Air Force pilot Carol Danvers. As you can see, her signature red, gold and blue costume from the comics is on proud display.
Marvel's latest superhero origin story is the first female-led movie within their canon. Set in the 1990s, the movie centres on the all-powerful Captain Marvel who is haunted by her memories of her other life on Earth. She soon finds herself in a battle between her home planet and two fanatical alien races, the Kree and the Skrulls.
Samuel L. Jackson co-stars as a younger Nick Fury (the actor has been de-aged via CGI), with Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, Lee Pace, Gemma Chan, Djimon Hounsou and Annette Bening.
The newly released poster primes us for a brand new trailer, said to be dropping on American network ESPN tonight during their Monday Night Football coverage of the Washington Redskins vs Philadelphia Eagles.
The question that now remains is this: when will we get the Avengers 4 trailer? Given that Captain Marvel is playing a prominent role in that movie, assisting the Avengers in their conflict against Thanos (Josh Brolin), we can probably expect it sooner rather than later. Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner recently teased the trailer release and it now seems likely that it will arrive on the morning of Wednesday 5th December.
Captain Marvel is released on 8th March 2019 with Avengers 4 (title as yet unconfirmed) following on 26th April 2019.
