If you watched chilling genetics-gone-wrong thriller Morgan this weekend, chances are your attention was grabbed by the seriously talented young actress playing the title role.

As the not-quite-human, not-quite-inhuman Morgan, young Anya Taylor-Joy is quite captivating and builds on her sensational performance in this year's cult horror hit The Witch. Here's what you need to know about this superstar-in-the-making.

1. Like Morgan, she's made of different elements

Born in 1996 in Miami to a Spanish-English mother and a Scottish-Argentinian father, it's little wonder that in the course of two major film roles, Anya has demonstrated a facility with accents from Northern English in The Witch to broad American in Morgan. That's also down to her upbringing: she's divided her time between both Argentina and the UK. In fact, according to an interview with Fangoria she didn't learn English until the age of 8.

2. She's got more going on than just movies

As confirmed in an interview, Anya was once a pretty serious ballet dancer, and that sense of balletic movement is self-evident in the film roles she has undertaken so far.

3. In fact, you won't believe where she's turned up

Earlier in 2016, Anya brought both her ballet background and acting skills to bear on Skrillex's music video for their remixed take on GTA's 'Red Lips'. Check it out below – it's a bit weird, mind.

4. She does her own stunts!

On the subject of filming the gruelling Morgan, Anya revealed the following to We Got This Covered: "One of the first things I said to [director Luke Scott] before we started shooting is that I wanted to do my own stunts. If that was possible, I wanted to do it. And I think a lot of directors may have been like, 'um, maybe,' but he was like, 'hell, yeah!' He wanted us to do all the training – a lot of different skill sets we didn’t know we had. Drag racing, gun training, etc.. And then all the [hand-to-hand] fighting."

5. She's returning to horror in her next role

Next up, Anya collaborates with The Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamalan for multiple-personality chiller Split. Anya plays Casey, a girl kidnapped by James McAvoy's disturbed loner and held in his basement. Are we looking at the next great scream queen? Watch this space!
