She's the voice behind Disney's go-getting Hawaiian princess Moana and she's destined for great things. Here's what you need to know about 14-year-old superstar-in-the-making Auli'i Cravalho.
1. Even her name evokes Disney!
'Auli'i' (pronounced ow-lee-ee) means 'cute or dainty' in Hawaiian – how adorable is that? You couldn't get a better actress to voice Disney's latest heroine.
2. Disney was her destiny
Although Auli'i is a soprano who performs in her school's glee club, she's never taken on a film role before. "I wanted to be a Disney princess and then I wanted to be a singer or an actress," Auli’i told People magazine. What were we saying about her being perfect for the part?
3. Her audition tape is the sweetest thing ever
Whilst auditioning online for the filmmakers, Auli'i was asked to act bearing in mind the following: "Imagine if we gave you the part of Moana." Having performed the request they revealed that "we're not pretending now", in the process informing the actress that she had indeed claimed the part. Her response (see below) speaks for itself.
4. In fact she was the last person auditioned
Don't take our word for it – check out the following video to see why Auli'i and Disney was a match made in heaven.
5. She loves Moana – and you will too
"Moana is such an amazing character," raves Auli'i. "She’s brave, she is so empowered, she knows what she wants and she’s not afraid to get it, and I think that’s something that I can relate to as well. I just love watching how she goes along in this wonderful movie and grows as a person and helps her culture along the way."
Moana is released in Cineworld on 2nd December.
