To quote Alan Partridge: "Mary Poppins, what's that?"
The answer is the first set photos from Disney sequel Mary Poppins Returns, and to describe the movie as long overdue would be an understatement.
Disney's 1965 masterpiece, adapted from E.L. Travers' stories, gifted us any number of classic pop culture moments from Julie Andrews' unforgettable title character to the array of ear-worming songs (we won't try and spell supercalifragilisticexpialidocious – oops, too late) and, erm, Dick Van Dyke's 'Cockney' accent.
The new movie, currently filming in London, sees Sicario star Emily Blunt reunite with her Into the Woods director Rob Marshall for an all-singing, all-dancing continuation of the timeless story, set 25 years after the events of the first movie and picking up with the older Banks children Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer). Check out the images below – and yes, that is Hamilton and Moana sensation Lin-Manuel Miranda pictured outside Buckingham Palace alongside our Emily.
Is it just us, or has this immediately vaulted into our 'most anticipated movies of 2018' list? Yes, the only bad news is we have another 20 months to wait until the movie flies onto screens. Mary Poppins Returns is released on Christmas Day 2018.
