Well, we didn’t see this coming – after an absence of 26 years, Linda Hamilton is set to return to the character of Sarah Connor, with James Cameron confirming that she will star in the currently-in-the-planning-stages new Terminator movie.
Both James Cameron and Linda Hamilton haven’t been involved in the Terminator series since Terminator 2: Judgment Day back in 1991.
Cameron, of course, dreamed up the franchise and wrote and directed the first two films. Since then, there have been three Terminator movies – 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, 2009’s Terminator: Salvation and 2015’s Terminator Genisys. All three failed to match the critical and commercial success of Cameron’s films.
Although Cameron isn’t directing this one (that honour goes to Deadpool’s Tim Miller), he is producing and indeed having input into the screenplay. And yes, Arnie is involved.
So with Cameron returning, if not at the steering wheel, but in the back seat giving directions, will this give the 33-year-old franchise the creative shot in the arm it needs?
Fingers and toes crossed...
