5 reasons to be excited for Keira Knightley’s return to the #Pirates franchise

We couldn’t believe it when we first found out that Elizabeth Swann wouldn’t be re-joining the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise back in 2011's On Stranger Tides.

Since the beginning, she has played an integral role in the development of the franchise, and having a Pirates film without Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner just didn’t seem right.

So we were beyond excited when rumours began circulating surrounding Keira Knightley’s presence in new movie, Salazar’s Revenge. In anticipation of the release, we’ve compiled a list of reasons why we cannot wait for Keira’s return (and why you should be excited too!)

1. It's one of her most memorable roles

Keira has undertaken many acclaimed roles. From Atonement to The Imitation Game, it seems there is no character she can’t handle.

Keira has also proven herself more than capable of handling a demanding action role, something highlighted throughout her time with the Pirates series. As well as being one of her most memorable roles, Elizabeth Swann is an iconic Pirates character in her own right, and it just wouldn’t feel right to go through the final battle without an insight into how her life has changed over the last few years.

2. Orlando is back too!

Wherever Elizabeth Swann is, Will Turner won’t be far behind. The relationship between the two was a significant part of the first few films, and it just wouldn’t be right for one to return without the other.

They were separated at the end of At World’s End just after marrying, and went on to conceive a child together. With their son, Henry (Brenton Thwaites) also appearing in Salazar’s Revenge, we cannot wait to see the family finally reunite after all these years.

3. The team is back together

From the very start of the franchise Elizabeth, Will and Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) have been a team. Sparrow might have survived without them in On Stranger Tides, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t miss seeing them all together.

So what could be better than all three being back together in what is expected to be the biggest challenge the Pirates have faced to date.

4. It could set up further adventures

The trailer might proclaim this is the final movie in the series, but we feel this is not the end of the Pirates franchise.

Could Elizabeth and Will's return be the spark that leads to even more movies? Wishful thinking here, but we wouldn’t say no to an additional movie sharing how the lives of the Turner family have changed since we last saw them. The end of the Pirates franchise may be on the horizon, but we’d do anything to keep it alive for as long as possible.

5. We have no clue what to expect!

Keira’s return was kept under wraps for so long, we weren’t even sure it was happening! With Keira herself stating back in 2014 that "My time has definitely passed. I loved it, it was an amazing experience but I won’t be going back", it seemed time to accept that her chapter had closed.

In fact, were it not for the Japanese film trailer, we wouldn’t even have a picture of her in the film at all. With all of the secrecy surrounding her appearance, we have our hopes up for something exciting to occur. Not long to wait now!
