One of the year's most eagerly awaited superhero blockbusters, Justice League, arrives this November and over the past year eagle-eyed viewers have been glued to social media, trying to glean any clues about Zack Snyder's epic opus. We've rounded up some of the official (and less than official) secrets.
This deleted scene was originally from Batman v Superman, but no-one can argue against its profound effect on the DC extended universe (DCEU). Before SWAT forces apprehended Lex Luthor, escorting him to his now second home – the looney-bin – we see him interacting with holograms in the Kryptonian birthing matrix (which produced Superman’s eradicator, Doomsday).
Clearly visible are three boxes cradled in the hands of something or someone ominous. Pundits were quick to speculate this oncoming threat to be one of two people: Steppenwolf or Yuga Khan. How does this (potentially) set up Justice League?
Well, both are related to Darkseid (a force of evil represented by an Omega symbol). Steppenwolf isn’t just the latter's most trusted lieutenant, but also his uncle and council, governing Planet Apokolips’ military corps. Yuga Khan on the other hand is infamously known for being Darkseid’s father.
To make matters worse, in Khan’s arsenal is telepathy/telekinesis. Could he control Superman as depicted in the Batman v Superman nightmare sequence?
Batman’s upgraded tactical suit was announced in September last year and let’s be honest, going head-to-head with Steppenwolf or Yuga Khan requires him in more than a skin-tight unitard. While Twitter users welcomed this suit positively, what sent fans into frenzy came down to another new black suit sported by a certain Superman...
Yes Henry Cavill will grace our screens as Superman once again, the difference being he's due to ditch the all-American, immortal, red, blue and yellow look to rock some stylishly dark black and silver. Does this indicate that Supes' journey is due to get even more tortured and anguished?
Here and gone in a Flash!
Justice League sees Ben Affleck's Batman and Gal Gadot's Diana Prince recruiting the great and good from the DC universe, including Barry Allen/The Flash (Ezra Miller). However the trailer reveals that the latter realises that Bruce Wayne is Batman – but how did he discover this?
We don't know for sure but the Facebook pic below shows cinematographer Fabian Wagner on set with a sign for 'Central City' in the background – that's the Flash's hometown. It looks like we're set to get some majorly cool location crossovers in the Justice League movie. We can only speculate on the nature of Batman and Flash's relationship in the movie but we're excited.
A matter of time!
Check out the Twitter shot below, showcasing Gal Gadot behind the scenes. We can clearly see a time stamp of 2 hours 9 minutes and 40 seconds, so does this indicate that the superhero-stuffed Justice League will have an epic length befitting its iconic characters? If its blockbusting predecessors Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice are anything to go by, we can expect a truly lengthy and spectacular offering, although it remains to be seen whether the movie will be cut down in the final edit.
Justice League arrives on 17th November 2017.
