Justice League star Jason Momoa on The Crow reboot
He's about to tear up the big screen as Aquaman in Justice League but even before we get to that stage, former Game of Thrones star Jason will put a spin on another classic character.
Released in 1994 Gothic superhero movie The Crow remains infamous for the death of its star Brandon Lee on set. The movie centres on Eric Draven, a man who rises from the grave to wreak undead vengeance on those who killed him and his fiancee, and is now being rebooted by Sony with Momoa in the lead.
The big man himself teased the start of production on Instagram with the following message.
Directed by Corin Hardy, the man behind creepy 2015 Irish horror The Hallow, The Crow is the culmination of a troubled and lengthy production process that began 10 years ago and has seen the likes of Tom Hiddleston and Luke Evans attached to the project. (Momoa joined in 2016.)
The actor is certainly on the ascent: with The Crow set to begin pre-production in early 2018 Momoa will also be kept busy with promotional duties on the standalone Aquaman movie, due for release on 21st December 2018, directed by The Conjuring's James Wan and co-starring Nicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe.
Thor: Ragnarok smashes the box office competition
Not content with its warm critical reception Ragnarok has now completely overshadowed its two Marvel predecessors to gross $650 million internationally in less than three weeks. We can imagine the Grandmaster unveiling a devious, Jeff Goldblum-esque smile of delight at such results.
Breaking the results down further, Thor: Ragnarok earned $56.6 million in its second weekend of domestic release, bringing its ten-day domestic total to $211.6m in North America alone. It has therefore defeated the domestic totals of The Incredible Hulk ($132m), Captain America: The First Avenger ($176m), Ant-Man ($180m), Thor ($181m) and Thor: The Dark World ($206m).
Meanwhile in terms of MCU movies Thor: Ragnarok has quashed the total international box office of both Ant-Man and Thor: The Dark World with Doctor Strange ($677m), Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($714m) and Guardians of the Galaxy ($773m) potentially in sight.
The Last Jedi TV spot contains more Finn
Until now John Boyega's charismatic Stormtrooper-turned-resistance-fighter has been mysteriously absent from much of The Last Jedi's marketing. Hopefully this portends some dramatic character twists that can't be revealed, but a new teaser trailer has finally presented us with more of the character,
In the trailer we see Finn still sporting Poe's (Oscar Isaac) jacket, gifted to him in The Force Awakens, and uttering the immortal phrase, "May the Force be with you." We then get more X-wing action between Finn and droid BB-8 – we're glad to see at least one friendship has survived the transition between two movies.
The Last Jedi is released on 14th December with director Rian Johnson signed on to make a whole new Star Wars trilogy.
