They might be the unlikeliest superheroes of all time, but the ragtag band of misfits known as the Guardians of the Galaxy took the world by storm in their first adventure. And they're set to do the same when Vol. 2 arrives in cinemas on 28th April.
Avengers who? The Guardians are the gang we wish we could be a part of, and here is why…
Friends that shoot together...
Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel) couldn’t be more different if they tried. One is a fast-talking, quick-firing racoon and the other is a somewhat lexically-challenged alien tree. However they prove to be the most perfect pals, with Groot providing quite a literal shoulder for Rocket to cry on... and shoot from! Rocket’s short stature is never a problem when he has a buddy like Groot, and this sharp-shooting duo have no problem in taking down the bad guys together.
Teamwork makes the dream work
When Groot decides to mess with the order of Rocket’s foolproof prison break plan, there’s no time for bickering as the gang are immediately catapulted into action. With an elaborate escape involving a battery, a remote wired into someone’s arm and a prosthetic leg, the team have to pull together in order to succeed. Turns out the leg was just Rocket messing with Quill (Chris Pratt), but nonetheless the Guardians prove that teamwork does indeed make the dream work as they bust out of the space prison together.
Bonding over Bacon...
Not the streaky kind, but rather Kevin Bacon, and in this hilarious scene Quill attempts to bond with the badass Gamora (Zoe Saldana) by telling her the legend of Footloose, and its aforementioned dancing hero. Smooth Star-Lord then has a go at wooing her with a romantic song, and whilst Gamora doesn’t quite succumb to his "pelvic sorcery" in this instance, it does mark the start of a beautiful friendship, which we might even see blossom further in Vol. 2...
We'll drink to that!
Nothing like enjoying a beverage with your best buds, and despite their early differences, we finally see Drax (Dave Bautista) loosen up a little and bond with Rocket over a tipple and a rather violent gambling game.
Sure they might ultimately end up having a little too much to drink, trying to pick a fight with each other in the process, but we’re sure they could settle their differences once they’d sobered up, perhaps.
We love it when a plan comes together
The A-Team? Well, these guys are more like the G-Team, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t nail a plan when they put their minds to it. This time the mastermind of the plan is Star-Lord, and despite only having 12% of a plan (more of a concept really), the team rally around him and offer their support in the seemingly impossible task of taking down the nefarious Ronan (Lee Pace).
After a stirring speech, and just when the scene is reaching a surprisingly emotional moment, Rocket, true to form, acknowledges the ridiculousness of the situation to hilarious effect. This "bunch of jackasses, standing in a circle" can truly accomplish anything when they work together... although Rocket might never admit this!
We. Are. Groot.
The gentle giant might not have much to say in the film, but in this emotional moment he proves that actions speak far louder than words, sacrificing himself for the rest of the crew when all hope seems lost. There’s no-one we would rather have at our side in times of trouble, shining a light in the darkest times and proving that friendship can save the day, and in this moment we were all Groot. Now pass us the tissues please!
A problem shared
After his distracting dance-off tactic against Ronan proves to be a success, Quill is faced with the fate of the world in his hands as he clutches the incredibly powerful Infinity Stone whilst a terrifying vortex forms around him.
Do his friends abandon him and run away scared? Not this bunch! One by one the Guardians join Star-Lord, standing strong as one unified force as the power of the stone surges through them, ultimately destroying the villainous Ronan. There is no greater symbol of strength from this squad, and in this moment they proved they really were the Guardians of the Galaxy.
