First look at Disney's live-action Mulan remake

Prepare for nostalgia overload with this first reveal of Disney's upcoming Mulan remake. Chinese-American actress and model Liu Yifei – otherwise known as Crystal Liu – plays the young woman who disguises herself as a man in order to battle the rampaging Huns, and can be seen below.

The story was, famously, the basis for Disney's 1998 animation, one that featured the voice of Eddie Murphy as dragon sidekick Mushu, with Christina Aguilera delivering the soaring vocals on 'Reflection'. The movie was a huge hit, grossing more than $300 million worldwide, and received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score (Jerry Goldsmith, who shared the accolade with Matthew Wilder and David Zippel for their contributions to the songs).

The remake is directed by Niki Caro, responsible for atmospheric 2002 Maori drama Whale Rider and 2017's The Zookeeper's Wife, starring Jessica Chastain. The supporting cast reads like a who's-who of martial arts legends, with Jet Li featuring as The Emperor, Jason Scott Lee as Bori Khan and Donnie Yen as Commander Tung.

Mulan is released in March 2020. If that seems too far away, check out our list of upcoming Disney remakes.
