With Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them just two weeks away, the future of the fledgling J.K. Rowling franchise has nabbed a serious A-lister in the form of Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp.
Yes, it's been reported on Deadline that the quirk-meister general, responsible for such beloved creations as Captain Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood, will be joining the magical Rowling universe in an as-yet-undisclosed role.
He will be appearing in the second of five Fantastic Beasts movies set to tie into the extraordinary Harry Potter universe. Depp will be joining Eddie Redmayne as heroic magizoologist Newt Scamander under the direction of David Yates, also responsible for the first Fantastic Beasts epic and the last four Potter blockbusters.
What do you think? Is this what Depp needs to get his career back on track? And will his reputation for playing wonderfully weird characters mesh with Rowling's world? Tweet us your thoughts @Cineworld.
