Were you among the millions of Harry Potter fans left dangling by the reference to Dumbledore in the trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them?
To recap: as young magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) takes his first tentative steps into New York customs, it transpires (in voiceover) that he has been expelled from a certain Hogwarts school for "endangering life with a beast." However, we also find out a certain Albus Dumbledore was very much against Newt's expulsion, prompting the inevitable question: will we be getting a young Dumbledore cameo in the movie?
The story of Fantastic Beasts takes place 70 years before the events of Potter, meaning if he were to appear Dumbledore would be a young teacher rather than the elderly, bearded sage that we know and love him as. And according to Beasts actor Dan Fogler, it's likely that both the latter and indeed several other Potter characters will appear in the new Rowling trilogy as it moves forward.
"As the stories go along, you will hear mention of your favourite characters," Fogler told MTV. "And you may meet their young counterparts along the way."
Is that a confirmation? If so, speculation is set to rage about how said characters are likely to be included. As mentioned, the movie takes place before the events of Potter so the inclusion of the older characters seen in flashback is surely not out of the question. But are we also going to get flashforwards to account for the presence of younger faces too?
