Fantastic Beasts 2: first image and official title unveiled

screen-poster

Calling all Cineworld muggles: the official title of Fantastic Beasts 2 has been revealed, along with an image teasing the first look at Jude Law's young Albus Dumbledore.

Drum roll, please... The movie is known as Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which should clue you into the storyline. Here's the official synopsis:

At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

Released in 2016 Fantastic Beasts served as our introduction to the pre-Harry Potter New York adventures of magizoologist Newt Scamander.

Based on the J.K. Rowling textbook glimpsed within the Potter universe it proved one of the year's biggest success stories, grossing $814 million worldwide. Many key creatives are returning for the sequel including director David Yates, screenwriter Rowling, and producers David Heyman, Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram.
