Dune: first look at Timothee Chalamet in the sci-fi epic

Amid all the Covid-19 confusion, it's good to have something to look forward to. Speaking of which, here's your first look at Call Me By Your Name's Timothee Chalamet in forthcoming sci-fi epic Dune. (Image is courtesy of Vanity Fair.)

Blade Runner 2049 and Sicario director Denis Villeneuve tackles Frank Herbert's formidably layered and complex novel. The book already inspired a movie in 1984, courtesy of director David Lynch, but it was a notorious disaster.

Villeneuve promises to do justice to Herbert's story, which centres on Chalamet's character Paul Atreides. As per the above screenshot, royal family member Atreides relocates from his home of Caladan to the sand-blasted desert planet of Arrakis, where he becomes embroiled in a complex family feud, and the battle over a precious substance called Spice.

Chalamet tells Vanity Fair: "The immediately appealing thing about Paul was the fact that in a story of such detail and scale and world-building, the protagonist is on an antihero’s journey of sorts."

Fuse the visionary talents of Villeneuve with Oscar nominee Chalamet, and we already have two very good reasons to be excited. And here are several others. It's scored by Hans Zimmer, co-written by Forrest Gump's Eric Roth and boasts possibly the best ensemble cast of the year.

Josh Brolin, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Jason Momoa, Charlotte Rampling, Zendaya and Stellan Skarsgard are all featuring in this eagerly anticipated movie.

Dune is currently scheduled for release on the 18th of December, so let us know @Cineworld if you're excited.
