Downton Abbey arrives on the big screen on 13th September, and given the original ITV series ended in 2015, one may be in need of a refresher.
Created by Gosford Park screenwriter Julian Fellowes, Downton explores the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the aristocratic Crawley family, headed up by the noble Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville).
The movie occupies the stage in between World Wars I and II, in which Downton plays host to no less than the Royal Family. Prestigious though this is, the arrival of the Royal entourage causes plenty of tension both upstairs and downstairs.

Talking of people who haven't seen the series (although she may well have made amends), here's a clip of the peerless Maggie Smith demonstrating her acid wit as the Dowager Countess. In fact, this clip pits former Harry Potter enemies Smith and Imelda Staunton against one another, which carries an added nostalgic kick.
