Ryan Reynolds Instagrams the first of many Deadpool 2 Easter eggs

Riotously funny and violent superhero epic Deadpool was laced with so many sly pop culture gags that we're still counting them, more than 18 months after its release.

And with Wade Wilson's return in Deadpool 2 pencilled for June 2018 (the movie has just wrapped filming), we're about to be hit with loads more Easter eggs. Mr. Pool himself, Ryan Reynolds, always brilliant at engaging with fans, has revealed the first hidden gems on his Instagram account – check out the images below.

No idea what the names on the katanas are referring to? Well Bea and Arthur forms the name of the lead actress from kitschy 1980s American series Golden Girls (referred to in Friends as one of Ross' favourite childhood shows). It's the sort of inexplicably quirky factoid that suits the sweary yet perversely sweet Merc with a Mouth.

There's also a connection to the first Deadpool: before he goes to play skeeball Wade is shown wearing a Bea Arthur-themed top. We're loving how even the in-jokes have their own mythology – fingers crossed the movie lives up to the social media hype.

Featuring Josh Brolin as Cable and Zazie Beetz as DominoDeadpool 2 is released on 1st June 2018. And because we're so good to you, here's a Bea Arthur clip for your delectation.
