Darkest Hour: check out the new character posters for the Oscar-contending drama

screen-poster

Will Gary Oldman finally, finally clinch that Oscar for Darkest Hour? One thing's for sure, the esteemed actor is all-but-unrecognisable as British leader Winston Churchill in the World War II drama, one focusing on the early days of Churchill's tenure as Adolf Hitler tightens his grip on Europe.

It's the sort of chameleonic masterclass we've come to expect from Oldman and Oscar buzz is already building around the performance. He's backed by a superb supporting cast: Rogue One's Ben Mendelsohn as King George VI, The Party's Kristin Scott Thomas as Clementine Churchill, Baby Driver's Lily James as Elizabeth Layton and Game of Thrones' Stephen Dillane as Viscount Halifax, all of whom take pride of place on these handsome new character portraits.

Directed by Atonement's Joe Wright and written by Anthony McCarten Darkest Hour is released on 12th January 2018. Check out the trailer below.
