All the amazing trailers you might have missed from San Diego Comic-Con 2016!

screen-poster

So a ton – and we mean, a ton – of epic movie footage dropped at this year's star-studded geek fest known as Comic-Con. Here's a rundown of the highlights that you absolutely need to see (and if you have already seen them... well, watch them again!)

Wonder Woman

Gal Gadot's kickass warrior princess gets her own standalone movie in the wake of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice – and the first trailer looks pretty epic, spanning a host of time periods including a charge across no man's land in World War I. Directed by brilliant Monster director Patty Jenkins and with Star Trek Beyond's Chris Pine on hunky support, this looks set to tear up the boys' own rulebook as far as superhero movies are concerned.

Justice League

Batman v Superman filmmaker Zack Snyder goes for a lighter touch in this colossal superhero ensemble piece, in which Ben Affleck's Batman goes on a recruitment mission around the DC Universe. Prepare for your introduction to Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Barry Allen/The Flash (Ezra Miller) and many more besides. Will this be the moment where the DCU learns to lighten up a bit? Check out the first footage and judge for yourselves.

Doctor Strange

Benedict Cumberbatch's wondrous Marvel superhero is treated to his second trailer in this awe-inspiring blend of mind-blowing, Inception-y visuals, as his arrogant surgeon Steven Strange has his mind opened to a whole new spiritual dimension courtesy of Tilda Swinton's Ancient One. It looks like possibly the most imaginative Marvel movie to date, but as ever in the MCU it's the more humble moments of humour that steal it, as Chiwetel Ejiofor's sign-off line in the following trailer makes clear.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

There are monsters on the loose in the Big Apple in the latest trailer for the magical-looking Harry Potter spin-off. Author J.K. Rowling's latest hero, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) comes into clearer focus in this latest preview as he vows to track down the beasties that have escaped from his briefcase, leading to all kinds of eye-popping magical action that will leave you breathless.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Leave it to Snatch and Sherlock Holmes filmmaker Guy Ritchie to add a dash of attitude to the age-old Arthurian legend. Sons of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam is bearded and badass in this full-throttle Comic-Con trailer for the upcoming historical action movie, one that looks to do for the Sword in the Stone what Ritchie did with Baker Street's iconic detective. Plus, we have an imperious-looking Jude Law on villain duties and none other than Littlefinger himself, Aiden Gillen. Sold.

Kong: Skull Island

If you thought Peter Jackson's 2005 blockbuster was the definitive take on the definitive monster movie, then think again. The Kings of Summer director Jordan Vogt-Roberts unveils his gargantuan new take on the Kong myth, with an all-star cast led by Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman headed to a remote island in search of something... big. Very big in fact – when one's head is the size of most houses, it's time for jaws to drop.

Blair Witch

Now, we didn't see this one coming. It turns out You're Next and The Guest director Adam Wingard's mysterious new movie, previously titled The Woods, is in fact a long delayed follow-up to the landmark 1999 found-footage horror, one that plunges us back into the Blair Witch story with sure-to-be-spine-tingling results. Given Wingard's rip-roaring mixture of horror and humour in his previous two movies, hopes are understandably sky-high for this one.

LEGO Batman

The Dark Knight? He's so last year – the riotously hilarious new Comic-Con trailer is all about Michael Cera's scene-stealing Robin, a plastic showstopper who will forever wipe the memories of Chris O'Donnell from your mind. Is this the movie that will restore a giddy sense of fun to the Batman franchise? Well, it's from the makers of the mind-blowingly awesome The LEGO Movie so we're guessing yes...

Brie Larson is Captain Marvel!

It wasn't all about the trailers this year. The most sensational and exciting bit of news announced fantastic Room actress and Oscar winner Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, one of the MCU's most iconic characters and a role that further secures Larson's unstoppable ascent to the upper realms of the Hollywood A-list. She'll be shaking up the Marvel rulebook as the first female superhero lead in the MCU. Best comic book news we've heard all year? For sure.
