It's all set to kick off in 2016's mammoth Captain America: Civil War as Phase III of the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets underway and Avenger turns against Avenger. You may also have heard that it features a little-known Marvel character by the name of Spider-Man (played by Brit Tom Holland).
The movie is set to build on the foundations of this year's Avengers: Age of Ultron, in which brewing tension between patriotic Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) and quip-happy entrepreneur Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) is set to come to a dramatic head.
As the title of the movie suggests, war is coming – and the rumour mill now indicates that Rogers' friend-turned-enemy the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) will be returning to the side of the good guys to help battle Iron Man.
The rumours stem from site heroichollywood.com (via comicbook.com), which also indicates that Stark may be breaking out the fearsome sounding Bleeding Edge armour for the mother of all battles between the aforementioned characters. Essentially, the armour would make Stark stronger than the Hulk. Oh, boy.
So what about the Winter Soldier? Also known by the name of Bucky Barnes, he was last seen in 2014's hit Captain America: The Winter Soldier, having been brainwashed and deployed as a deadly weapon by the sinister forces of Hydra. At the end of that movie, dormant memories about his past life started to re-emerge – one assumes that Civil War will build on the emotional impact of this storyline.
It should be stressed that these are currently rumours but all the signs indicate that Captain America: Civil War will make for an explosive opener to MCU Phase III. More info as we get it.
