While Avengers: Endgame finally storms onto screens, let's not forget there are other comic book properties zooming their way towards screens this summer.
Arriving this June is X-Men: Dark Phoenix, the latest instalment in the blockbuster mutant saga. Longtime X-Men creative Simon Kinberg turns director for this adaptation of Chris Claremont's hugely popular Dark Phoenix comic book arc – previously adapted to lesser effect in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand.
Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner reprises her role as telepathic Jean Grey, who is exposed to a mysterious force in the midst of an X-Men mission to rescue the crew of a space shuttle. As she begins a shocking transformation into the most powerful – and deadly – creature in the universe, she is taken under the wing of a mysterious and malevolent figure (Zero Dark Thirty's Jessica Chastain) who wants Jean to capitalise on her abilities.
The movie continues the timeline laid down by X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse. That means we get a host of returning faces as the younger X-Men including James McAvoy as Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique and Nicholas Hoult as Beast.
