The greatest action sequences of Blackhat director Michael Mann

screen-poster

A partial return to form for Mann following the misfiring Miami Vice, this 1920s-set thriller explores the career of notorious bank robber John Dillinger (Johnny Depp).

Essentially, it's Heat set in Depression-era America with a battle ensuing between Depp's wily criminal and relentless FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale). Everything comes to a head in a dramatic shootout at Dillinger's forest hideaway, as the agents square off against their enemies with Tommy Guns blazing.

The contemporary digital photography jars somewhat with the period being depicted but it's still another brilliantly staged action scene from a director who specialises in them.
