A Quiet Place Part II – watch the first trailer

Back in 2018, actor John Krasinski proved himself a horror director of formidable repute with A Quiet Place. This story of a family besieged by monsters that hunt via sound was a huge hit critically and commercially, grossing more than $300 million worldwide against a $17 million budget.

And for those who were curious about the ultimate fate of Evelyn (Emily Blunt) and her family, you get to find out in A Quiet Place Part II. The first film ended, you'll remember, with Evelyn discovering the creatures' weakness: paralysing them with feedback via her daughter's ear implant, and then blasting the fleshy interior beneath the armoured coating.

By the looks of it, A Quiet Place Part II fills in the gaps as to how the beasts arrived in the first place. Krasinski's first film was intentionally vague as to the origins of the catastrophe, and all the creepier for it.

But this time, we're treated to an impressive one-take shot inside Evelyn's car as the beasts go on the rampage – at least, we're assuming this sequence is a prelude. Who knows, it may well be another invasion – and we use that word deliberately, as Krasinski himself has confirmed that the villains are in fact aliens.

Even so, in classic survival horror fashion (think War of the Worlds), the real threat may be of a more human variety. As Evelyn and her children Marcus (Noah Jupe) and Regan (Millicent Simmonds) travel in near-silence across country, they realise that there are people out there who may not be worth saving. The warning comes from Cillian Murphy's grizzled survivor, one of two new characters (the other being Aquaman's Djimon Hounsou).

A Quiet Place Part II is released on the 20th of March. Let us know @Cineworld if you're excited.
