Stoker (18)
Synopsis
The phrase 'dysfunctional family' takes on a whole new meaning in this disturbing psychological thriller. India Stoker (Mia Wasikoswka) is an introverted, friendless individual who is bullied at school and has a bitter relationship with her emotionally unstable mother Evelyn (Nicole Kidman). When India's father dies in a car accident it heralds the arrival of her Uncle Charlie (Matthew Goode), one she never knew existed. Charlie comes to live at the family estate and soon the already turbulent dynamic becomes ever more unsettled. In her quest to discover what happened to her father, India comes to suspect that Charlie has sinister ulterior motives. But instead of being repelled, India instead finds herself increasingly infatuated with her charming yet mysterious uncle - generating intense feelings of jealousy in Evelyn. The English-language debut of acclaimed South Korean director Park Chan-Wook (Oldboy), Stoker is an unsettling, bizarre thriller that turns the concept of family inside out.
