Liberal Arts (12A)
Synopsis
A thirtysomething graduate falls for a young student in this sharp and funny romantic comedy. Thirty-five year-old Jesse Fisher (Josh Radnor) languishes in an unsatisfying New York college admissions job and has just come out of a long-term relationship. He's then invited to his Ohio alma mater for a retirement party for professor Peter Hoberg (Richard Jenkins). Here he meets free-spirited young drama student Zibby (Elizabeth Olsen). Their attraction is mutual, and when Jesse returns home they continue to keep in touch through handwritten letters. Eventually, Jesse is drawn back to Ohio. But he agonises over the age gap in their rapidly developing romance. Written, directed by and starring Josh Radnor, this is a truthful, witty comedy of modern relationships. 'Martha, Marcy May Marlene' star Elizabeth Olsen contributes another outstanding performance as the sensitive intellectual Zibby. Watch out too for the great Allison Janney as a spectacularly sour and cynical Professor of Romantic English Literature!
