The animators of Japan's legendary Studio Ghibli rework the much-loved children's classic.
Mary Norton's fantasy novel about little people who live under the floorboards has enchanted generations of children. Now the studio that gave us the Oscar-winning 'Spirited Away' (2002) has updated the story for a modern-day Tokyo setting. A sickly little boy named Sho (Tom Holland) comes to live with his great aunt Sadako. Seeing a cat chasing something in the bushes, he comes across a tiny borrower - so called because they 'borrow' everything they need from humans up above. She's Arrietty (Saoirse Ronan), whose mother Homily (Olivia Colman) warns her about befriending Sho, since borrowers are not supposed to be seen by humans. But Arietty disobeys her mother and becomes firm friends with Sho. Realising that they have been discovered, Arrietty's father, Pod (Mark Strong), makes plans to move out of the house. But danger is never far away and the miniature family soon find they need Sho's help.
