This sumptuous drama stars Tilda Swinton as the matriarch of a wealthy Italian family for whom a chance encounter ignites long-repressed passions.
The wealthy Recchi family of Milan are gathering for a birthday dinner in honour of their patriarch, Edoardo Sr, with Emma (Tilda Swinton), the stylish head of the household, overseeing arrangements with the servants. Edoardo Sr is preparing to hand over the reigns of his business to his son Tancredi. However, a ripple of surprise is caused by his announcement that his grandson Edo, Emma and Tancredi's son, will have joint control. Gianluca, Edo's brother is left out of the deal. Later on, Emma is introduced to a young man named Antonio, and thinks nothing more of the encounter. But the weeks to follow will bring momentous change to the family that nobody has seen coming. And Emma will find herself embarking on a forbidden relationship that is as passionate as it is unexpected.
