Perci Trachtenberg (Ben Kingsley) is widely regarded as the world's greatest living mathematician. At a high-rolling casino in London he meets Venkat (Amitabh Bachchan), a reclusive mathematics genius from India. Venkat tells Perci about an equation that could change the world of mathematics forever, an equation that has already left a painful and indelible stain of guilt on him. In flashback we see Venkat encouraged to test his theory by his ambitious colleague Professor Shantanu (Madhavan). Venkat has no interest in money, but Shantanu persuades him to use his equation to crack the poker game of Teen Patti. Helped by a small group of students, they explore the dangerous addas (underground gambling dens) of Bombay. But what starts out as an experiment descends into a chaotic game of greed and desperation that neither of them can control.
