Pregnant for the second time by her own absent father, and threatened with expulsion from school, Precious is trapped in a life of misery. Even when she is offered the chance of an alternative education, her mother tells Precious that she is too stupid to do anything other than eke out a living on welfare. But Precious takes a chance with the Each One/Teach One initiative, where she is mentored by the patient and caring Ms Rain (Paula Patton).
