The next morning, Edward decides he could use an escort for the rest for the week and hands Vivienne £3000 to stick around. He also sends her on a shopping spree but Vivienne is left distraught after being humiliated by the snooty saleswomen on Rodeo Drive. After Edward accompanies her on a triumphant return to the shops, they spend the night talking and begin to fall for each other. As they continue on towards the warmer climes of the sea, the father must continue to protect his son against exposure, starvation - and groups of terrifying, murderous gangs - in the blind hope that they'll find a better life at the end of their journey.
